“Slide of Doom.” I love it.
Took Deven to the park today. According to my son, this is his secret lab with the “Slide of Doom.”
If you have not yet seen the trailer to the upcoming film adaptation of “Where the Wild Things Are” you, my friends, are in for a treat.
My favorite part of the trailer isn’t the jaw dropping effects or background music by Arcade Fire, its the phrase, “inside all of us, is a wild thing.” The line just makes my heart leap at the memories I had as a child playing in snow, hiding in trees and bushes, and using my imagination to create whole new worlds.
The phrase also makes my heart sink as I remember that too many kids don’t get the same opportunities as I did to play, to use their imaginations.
By next Tuesday, I’m sure every child that goes to school will actually be in school. In between the sports, the standardized tests, and piano lessons, let’s not forget to let our kids transform into their own “wild things”.
